Analytical modeling of advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage: Literature review and new models

چکیده

We review the literature on analytical models of advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage plants with isochoric reservoirs, a focus insights that can be extracted from models. The indicates for turbomachinery, and without throttling is missing literature. proceed to derive such models, assuming plant operating at quasi-steady state, treated as calorically thermally perfect gas, thermal-energy units are free thermal pressure losses. result in closed-form expressions key performance indicators like efficiency volumetric density terms component efficiencies ratios. derivation these rests approximating integrals involving simultaneous temporal variations temperature pressure. approximation leads relative errors magnitudes smaller than 1%. show compression expansion work, efficiency, maximum process exhibit minima. also given non-dimensional capacity reservoir pressure, minimize approximately equal minimum maximize efficiency. For two-stage diabatic cavern units, our model predicts within 4.76%, indicating it accurate enough used initial design. • Review storage. New developed reservoirs throttling. Models give capacity. design by estimating volumes. Reduced temperatures imply reduced efficiencies.

Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage with packed bed thermal energy storage

The majority of articles on Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) so far have focussed on the use of indirect-contact heat exchangers and a thermal fluid in which to store the compression heat. While packed beds have been suggested, a detailed analysis of A-CAESwith packed beds is lacking in the available literature. This paper presents such an analysis. We develop a numerical model ...

Adiabatic compressed air energy storage – a study on dynamic performance with thermal energy storage

Up to day, 70% of the gross electricity (~ 20000 TWh) is produced via fossil fuel; to reduce this share and abate CO2 emissions the energy system will face a dramatic change in the near future consisting in a significant introduction of intermittent renewable energy sources. The implementation of this step change will be possible only through efficient and economic grid-scale electrical energy ...

Thermodynamic Analysis of Three Compressed Air Energy Storage Systems: Conventional, Adiabatic, and Hydrogen-Fueled

We present analyses of three families of compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems: conventional CAES, in which the heat released during air compression is not stored and natural gas is combusted to provide heat during discharge; adiabatic CAES, in which the compression heat is stored; and CAES in which the compression heat is used to assist water electrolysis for hydrogen storage. The latte...
